This 3 day lecture/hands on seminar will cover in detail the basics of an occlusal evaluation.
Topics covered include:
How to analyze a patient’Äôs presenting occlusion’ĶThe Functional Analysis
How to distinguish a pathologic occlusion from a physiologic one.
How to perform a clinical examination of the TMJs.- Doppler auscultation, The Piper TMJ classification system
The significance of Centric Relation from a diagnostic and reconstructive point of view.
Centric Relation bite recording techniques for analyzing an occlusion and for carrying out a reconstruction.
Proper use of a face bow and semi-adjustable articulator and why it is so important to use one.
How to alter and determine a stable Vertical Dimension of Occlusion scientifically and predictably.
Proper occlusal appliance therapy’Ķ How to diagnose, treat and restore the bruxing patient.
Principles of an occlusal equilibration.
The hands on part of this seminar will allow attendees to:
Use the Doppler on the TMJs
Take face bows
Take three different types of centric relation bite records (Lucia jigs, leaf gauges and bimanual manipulation) and how to verify them.
Analyze mounted models on a semi-adjustable articulator.
Analyze condylar movement and determine its significance on a semi- adjustable articulator
Equilibrate mounted models
Equilibrate your own full arch bruxing appliance

Detailed hand outs including photographs which follow the lecture very closely.

All attendees are required to bring:
Three sets of study models of their own mouths
Their own pre-fabricated full arch bruxing appliance equilibrated to maximum intercuspation only.
